Alfonso Vargas has once again been unanimously elected as president of the Andalusian Renewable Energy Association (CLANER), as agreed by the new board of directors, constituted in the General Assembly held in Cadiz, to continue in his mission to represent and lead the Andalusian clean energy organisation for four more years.
At the same time, CLANER has elected Juan Manuel Agudo as vice-president, representing the company Magtel Operaciones. The association’s Board of Directors is completed by Juan Ramón Mateos, representing Ecointegral Ingeniería; Ricardo Sancho, representing EDP Renovables España; Luis Martín, representing Iberdrola Renovables Energía; Jorge Loring, representing Lorte; Jesús Varela, representing Naturgy Renovables; Elsa Domínguez, representing SSE Renewables Limited; Miguel Montero, representing Texla Energías Renovables, and Mariano Barroso, representing Torsa Global.
Pedro Mayorga, from EnerOcean, as delegate for Offshore Wind, and Miguel Torres, from Atepo Ingeniería, as delegate for Self-consumption, are also members of CLANER’s Board of Directors as area delegates.
Alfonso Vargas who, on behalf of Endesa, has held the presidency of Andalusian renewables since October 2016, expressed his satisfaction with the support obtained once again by Andalusian renewables companies and reiterated his commitment “to the defence of a strategic sector in the industry and economy of Andalusia and, by extension, in the national economy, at a crucial time for the establishment of the firm and lasting structures required by the change of energy model undertaken”.
Similarly, the president of CLANER congratulated “the Andalusian business sector, which in recent decades has made a great effort to overcome all the hurdles that have come and gone until reaching the current moment of prominence and recognition of the work and investments that have been necessary to achieve the objectives set at regional, national and European level”.
Alfonso Vargas
The president of CLANER, Alfonso Vargas, is an industrial engineer from the University of Seville and has spent most of his professional career, for more than 25 years, in the Endesa/Enel group.
Since 1998, he has been working in the renewable energy sector, working mainly in promotion and business development, both in Andalusia and in other regions, from his beginnings at Endesa Cogeneración y Renovables until he reached Endesa’s current subsidiary in this field, Enel Green Power España.
He is currently still involved in the world of clean energy, decarbonisation, efficiency and sustainable mobility, participating in the eCity project being developed by Endesa in Isla de la Cartuja together with the regional and local administrations, being responsible for the Energy area.
He has been president of CLANER since 2016 and has been re-elected to the position, consecutively and unanimously, in 2020 and 2024.
Jornadas sectoriales
The election of the new CLANER Board of Directors coincides in time with the sectoral conferences organised by the association itself, which represents clean energy in Andalusia, which have been held since yesterday at the Parador Nacional de Cádiz.
Today’s conference continues with a round table discussion on aspects related to the Administration with the participation of CLANER’s Secretary General, Gemma García-Pelayo, the Secretary General for Energy of the Andalusian Regional Government, Manuel Larrasa, and the Director General for Protected Natural Spaces of the Andalusian Regional Government, José Enrique Borrallo.
For his part, the secretary general of the International Graduate School of the Mainjobs Group, Antonio J. Martínez, and the rector of the International Business School of the Mainjobs Group, Juan Antonio Jaén, will give a presentation on training issues in the field of renewables.
The conference will also address the current prominence of green hydrogen with speeches by the president of the Andalusian Hydrogen Cluster, Francisco Montalbán, and the non-executive chairman of Hygreen Energy, Marcelino Oreja, at a round table moderated by the director of the Hydrogen Division of Ecointegral Ingeniería, Adrián Correro.
The storage factor in renewables is also the subject of study at the round table discussion with Luis Marquina, President of the Business Association of Batteries, Cells and Energy Storage (AEPIBAL), and Arturo Buenaventura, Director of Hydraulics and Environment at Magtel. The head of the Energy Service of the Andalusian Regional Government, Antonio José Palacios, will moderate the event.
The delegate of Red Eléctrica de España in Andalusia, Jorge Jiménez, and the general manager of Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla of Endesa, Rafael Sánchez Durán, will analyse the issues related to electricity grids, with the technical director of Idea Energía, Pablo García, acting as moderator.
The conference closes with a round table dedicated to aspects related to the territory. The participants were the Mayoress of Jerez and President of the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, María José García-Pelayo, and the General Manager of Texla Renovables, Miguel Montero. The president of CLANER, Alfonso Vargas, will act as moderator.
Finally, the closing ceremony of the conference, which is sponsored by Naturgy and with the collaboration of Texla Renovables, Ecointegral, and Maninjobs, will be carried out by the president of CLANER.
